Welcome

The Liberation Museum Zeeland takes us back to an extraordinary piece of Zeeland's history. During the Second World War Allied Soldiers, sailors and airmen of various different nationalities united in the fight against the German occupation forces. This resulted in large numbers of dead and wounded on both sides. The local population in Zeeland also suffered heavy casualties.

The museum offers the possibility of a tour along important events in the Second Worldo War. The exhibition starts in the cellar of the museum with the showing of an impressive film. The museum route then continues over three different floors, leading the visitor step-by-step to the liberation of Zeeland.

In addition, the museum also pays attention to the Zeeland Battalion. This unit was mainly formed by volunteers who, after the liberation of Zeeland, wanted to join the forces still fighting for the liberation of The Netherlands and Western Europe. After the Second World War the battalion was sent out to the Dutch East Indies to bring law and order there.
